Being the first in your family to pursue a post-secondary degree is a significant accomplishment that comes with great responsibility. Furthermore, your identity as a #firstGen continues once you enter the workforce. Paving the Way: Tips for First Generation College Students and Professionals reminds #firstgens of the innate and developed strengths they bring to college, and it provides guidance on navigating both college and the workplace. While these tips are not all-inclusive, they reflect the advice I wish someone had shared with me as a low-income first-gen student, alongside observations from my experience working in Higher Education.
